  !OBITUARY (Cherokee Scout Jan 27, 2004) Austin Nichols Jr. Austin Boyd Nichols Jr., 57, of Drexel died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, in an Asheville hospital. A native of Cherokee County, he lived most of his life in Burke County. He was the son of Austin Boyd Nichols Sr. of Robbinsville and the late Rachel George Nichols. He was a sports enthusiast and loved football. He was a member of High Peak Baptist Church in Valdese. Surviving, in addition to his father, are a daughter, Katherine Rachel Nichols of Milwaukee; a sister, Donna Nichols Mecimore of Valdese; and a brother, Dickie George Nichols of Valdese. Graveside services were at noon Friday, Jan. 23, in Red Marble Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Mickey Stewart officiating. Pallbearers were Lloyd Hedrick, Carl Junior Lequire, Buddy Adams, and Nick, Casey and Buddy Nichols. The family requests memorials be made to Red Marble Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Martha Postell, 1201 Red Marble Road, Andrews, NC 28901. Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews, was in charge.
