      John Cross Pullium went to be with his Lord, Feb. 21, 2009.

      Originally from Andrews, he moved to Robbinsville in 1960. He had been in Fleshiers Health Care Facility in Fairview for the past five years before going to Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care-Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.

      Born May 14, 1916, he was the son of Cross and Minnie West Pullium of Andrews. John was preceded in death by his wife, Jayne White Pullium and son, John W. Pullium of Robbinsville and grandson, Mathew Phillips of Knoxville, Tenn., along with his parents and several brothers and sisters who were all very close to his heart.

      He was a thirty-second degree Scottish rites Mason and worked with the food bank in Andrews. He was a member of the VFW and the Episcopal Church of the Messiah in Andrews. While serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he received two Purple Hearts, three Bronze stars and various other commendations. He worked for the Mayflower Trucking for over 60 years winning numerous service awards with the company.

      He is survived by his daughter, Julie Manuel and husband, Mark of Fletcher; step-daughter, Becky Roper of Andrews; granddaughter, Jessi Manuel and loving companion, Alex Stearns of Fletcher, grandsons; Luke Manuel and wife, Beth of Arden, Casey Manuel and wife, Heidi of Fletcher, and Todd Phillips and wife, Teresa of Kensett, Ark.; and six great-grandchildren.

      John Cross was a devoted father and grandfather who enjoyed and lived life to the fullest, he was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

      A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Andrews.

      Memorials can be made to the Andrews Cemetery Fund in care of the Town Hall in Andrews
