!COURT: 8 May 1770 Rowan Co., NC Court Minutes 1753-1772 p. 189
"Ordered by the court that Rachal Grant orphan of James Grant deceased aged twelve years be bound until William Grant for and serving the Term of Six years.
Likewise ordered that Michael Grant orphan the age of three years be bound unto the said William Grant for and during the term of eighteen years from the day of the date and the said William is to learn him the art and mistry of Weaver and otherwise to comply with an act of assembly in such laws made and provided."
!COURT: 5 Nov 1771 Rowan Co., NC Court Minutes 1753-1772 p. 300 (note does not say they are orphans of James Grant, in fact, i don't think they are his children as they were born in MD well after James was in Rowan Co., NC).
On Motion of Alex Martin. Ordered by the court that David Grant, orphan, be bound until William Brown to learn the art and Mistry of a house carpender (sic) and serve for and during the term of ten years and 3 months and his said master is to give him at the expiration of his said time the sum of five pounds over & above what the law saith.
On motion of John Dunn. Ordered by the court that Isaac Grant orphan be bound unto William Moore to learn the art and mistery of a weaver he being now 7 years & 10 months old & to serve 13 years and 9 months and his master is to give his sd apprentice the sum of five pounds over and above what the law directs;
