  • Notes
    • !NOTES:Marty Grant's 4th Great Grand Mother;

      !BIRTHDATE:
      1800 Census age 16-25 1774/1784
      1810 Census age 26-44 1765/1784
      1820 Census x
      1830 Census age 60-69 1760/1770
      1840 Census age 70-79 1760/1770
      1850 Census age 70... 1779/1780
      If we disregard 1800 and 1850, she was born ca 1765/1770 per the 1810, 1830 and 1840 census.
      If we disregard 1830 and 1840, she was born ca 1779/1780 per the 1850 census which works with her 1800 and 1810 census entries.
      That's three for 1765/1770 and three for 1774/1784 or ca 1780, so it's hard to know which is accurate.
      However, if she's the daughter of Daniel & Pleasant, as I suspect (they were neighbors), then she was born in 1776 per Quaker records, which certainly fits some of the census entries;

      !NOTES:Is Esther Smith Gilbert the same Esther Smith d/o Daniel & Pleasant or a different Esther Smith? Both were Quakers, both were disowned for marrying non-Quakers, one in 1797 to Mr. Caps, one in 1799 to Mr. Gilbert.
      1. Wilson Gilbert & his wife Esther Smith lived next door to widow Pleasant Smith in census and were neighbors per other records. This strongly suggests a close relationship.
      2. Wilson & Esther named son Daniel, presumably after her father Daniel Smith.
      3. Wilson & Esther named son Thomas, presumably after her brother Thomas Smith.
      4. DNA evidence shows I'm related to these Smiths. Of course that doesn't preclude Esther Smith Gilbert from being from another branch of same family.
      5. The Esther Smith who married Mr. Caps was born ca 1774 per her age on the 1850 census. That's not 1776, but it's close.
      6. Bottom line is that I can't be certain which Esther is Daniel & Pleasant's daughter, but if we use my Esther's older potential birth date of ca 1760s, then she's too old to be Daniel's daughter, but could be his sister instead. Yet, despite her inconsistent ages I'm reasonably sure she's Daniel's daughter. Some other evidence would help though;
