    Notes
    • Children

Richard Barnes and his apparent wife Martha apparently had at least four (or perhaps five) children based on the 1800, 1810 and 1820 census records, but unfortunately, none have been identified.

      1 Unknown Son (c1784/90)
      2 Unknown Daughter (c1794/1800)
      3 Unknown Daughter (c1794/1800)
      4 Unknown Son (c1794/1800)
      5 Unknown Son (c1810/20)

1 Unknown Son born ca 1784/1790. A male this age was with Richard Barnes in 1800 and 1810, but not with Martha Barnes in 1820, so he probably had married (or died) by then. A John Barnes (c1775/94) appeared on the 1820 Marion census. He could be this son. Another possibility is David W. Barnes (c1780/90) who appeared on the 1824 tax list and the 1830 census in Marion.

2 Unknown Daughter born ca 1794/1800. A female this age was with Richard Barnes in 1800 and 1810 and with Martha in 1820. If she married, it was after 1820.

3 Unknown Daughter born ca 1794/1800. A female this age was with Richard Barnes in 1800 and 1810 and with Martha in 1820. If she married, it was after 1820.

4 Unknown Son born ca 1794/1800. There was no male this age with Richard Barnes in 1800, but there was one with him in 1810 and with Martha in 1820. This could indicate someone born ca 1800, but just after the 1800 census taker came around. I have no clues who this might be. No likely suspects appeared on the 1830 census in Marion.

5 Unknown Son born ca 1810/1820. This might be a grandson instead, or perhaps someone else. Martha Barnes had a male this age with her in 1820. I don't know for sure if he is a son or not.
