Informant was Joe Bordeaux, Dorothy's son. - I once *speculated* that Tabitha was a Wallace based only on the fact that she was born in SC and a Henry Wallace, also born SC, was her neighbor. This information is "out there" now, but it was highly speculative. We have a source for Jones, so I've changed her maiden name to that from Wallace. !NOTES ON ETHNICITY: Tabitha was listed as white on the 1850 and 1860 censuses, but as free colored on the 1840 census. This may indicate she was of mixed race ancestry, or at least the 1840 census taker thought so. !NOTES ON BIRTHDATE: 1840 Census age 24-35, born ca 1804-1816 1850 Census age 40, born ca 1809/1810 1860 Census age 55, born ca 1804/1805 - Both her 1850 & 1860 ages work with her 1840 age. Which one is more accurate though? No way to know for sure. !NOTES ON BIRTHPLACE:North Carolina most likely, but one contradictory source: 1850 Census NC 1860 Census SC <--- outlier 1870 Census deceased 1880 Census entry for her known children list their mother's birth place as - William NC Leonard NC Mahala NC Tabitha NC 1900 Census entry for her known children list their mother's birth place as - Leonard NC Tabitha NC * Based on the above, I conclude Tabitha was born in NC. Perhaps she was born right in the same region (Livingston Creek, near Delco community) where she lived after marriage and where she died.; !NOTES ON POTENTIAL PARENTS: (1) James Jones (1765/1784-aft 1803) is old enough to be her father and was in right area until 1803. (2) Henry Jones (bef 1789-aft 1803) is old enough to be her father and was in right area until 1803. - Both James and Henry appear to have left area before Tabitha was born though. (3) Willis Jones (1784/1789-aft 1812) is old enough to be her father and was in right area until 1812. He had no apparent daughters at home in 1810 though. She might not have been born yet if this is her father. (4) Isaac Jones of 1810 census in Brunswick. His household consisted of 6 free colored persons (no gender or age breakdown). This could be her father since she and her family were all listed as Free colored on the 1840 census. I didn't find Isaac on the 1820 census. There is one in Bladen Co., NC that year but that's a different person who was also there back in 1810. !NOTES ON POTENTIAL RELATIVES: (1) Ezekiel Jones is 3 households from her in 1840 census. (2) Allen Jones is 4 households from her in 1840 census. (3) Ivey Jones (c1819 NC) just 12 households from the Davis family in 1850. Ivey and wife Elizabeth (c1820) and several children. Could be related to Tabitha. (4) David Jones (c1818 NC) just 6 houses away in 1860. He was listed as mulatto living with another family. (5) James Jones (c1811 NC) just 17 housesholds away in 1860. Could be related.; !CENSUS:1810 x * If born yet, would be under 10. Only "J. Jones" had a daughter this age. That is probably James Jones.. !CENSUS:1820 x * Tabitha would be about 10 to 15, so could be in the under 10 group (1810/1820) or 10-15 group (1804/1810). Nathan Jones has two daughters under 10. John Jones has one daughter under 10. No Jones households in Brunswick has a daughter aged 10-15 in 1820; !CENSUS:1830 x * Tabitha would be about 20 to 25, so could be in the 20-29 age group (1800/1810) or possibly 15-19 (1810/1815). John Jones has a female 20-29 in addition to one 30-39 (probable wife). Simon Jones has a free colored female aged 10-23 (born ca 1805/1820). !MARRIAGE:Cornelius Davis and Tabitha Jones likely married between 1830 and ca 1834.
