  !NOTES:From my web page formerly at http://www.martygrant.com/gen/baker/baker-jackson-ashe.htm I don't know who Jackson's parents were for sure. Census analysis shows several possible suspects. Other researchers list him as a son of Thomas Baker (1765) which may be correct. Certain evidence points in that direction. The Baker DNA project shows some interesting results. One descendant of Adam Jackson Baker has participated in the project. His results show him to be a part of the Thomas Baker (1711-1777) group. This particular Thomas Baker is the grandfather of Thomas Baker (1765), so that does support the theory that Adam Jackson Baker is a son of Thomas Baker (1765). It does prove that he is part of the same Baker group at least, though it doesn't actually prove Thomas (1765) is his father. Jackson Baker would probably have been home with his parents for the 1820 census and listed in the "under 10" age group (born ca 1810/20). James Baker (1775/80) had four sons that age; James Baker (1794/1800) had three sons under 10; Jonathan Baker (1775/80) had two two possible matching sons; Thomas Baker (1765) had two possible matches; Zachariah Baker (1775/80) had three possible matches; Elijah Baker (1794/1800) had three matching males, and John Baker (1783) also had three matching sons. The 1820 census only helps a little since so many of the Ashe County Bakers had son approximately Jackson's age. However it does show that Thomas is a possible father for him. Jackson Baker would have been about 15 by the time of the 1830 census, so he should be listed in either the 10-14 age group (born ca 1815/20) or in the 15-19 age group (born ca 1810/15). There are a few Bakers in Ashe County that year with sons in those age groups, so this does not help immensely in narrowing down the list of possible parents for him: my ancestor Jacob Baker (1760/65) had one possible match; James Baker (1775/80) had three sons that age; Morris Baker (1780/90) had three sons that age; Zachariah Baker (1775/80) also had three sons that age; James Baker (1794/1800) had two sons this age; Thomas Baker (1765) had one possible match. John Baker (1783) had 3 boys that age. Any of these could be Jackson's father. "Adam J. Baker" married Majah Baldwin on 6 Aug 1837 in Ashe County. Majah was born ca 1812/13 in Ashe Co, NC. I don't know who her parents were. I was unable to locate Jackson Baker on the 1840 census. He did not seem to be listed in Ashe County that year, or elsewhere in the area as far as I could find. He may be living with his in-laws or with other relatives, and therefore not a head of household. They were listed in Ashe County for the 1850 census. They were just ten houses away from Mary Cantrell Baker (c1768), widow of Thomas Baker (1765). My Jacob Baker (1760/65) and some of his offspring had moved there earlier, so that may indicate some sort of relationship, or it could just be a coincidence.
